Sylvie Goulard « France must set aside the spirit of Asterix »

Posted by admin in Comité de pilotage | News

Financial Times, by Sylvie Goulard (19.04.2012).

Apparently, there’s nothing new in the French presidential election campaign. The agenda is driven by French obsessions: like Asterix’s village against the Roman Empire, France will “hold out alone” against globalisation and foreign influence. On the right, immigrants are blamed for problems. On the left, the markets and the Anglo-Saxons are the enemy. For both sides, the state has to be strong, to take strategic economic decisions through a politique industrielle.

Ms. Goulard, read the article « Spain is the New Greece » by Marshall Auerback before talking such nonsense about debt and unemployment.

Or anything by Paul Krugman, if you like.

The truth is that reducing public debt, cuts in public spending, and the destruction of the welfare state is exactly what will bring down Europe’s economy.

Austerity is wrong, and there is no way of demonstrating that it works.
